$15,000 GRANT TO PREPARE FLYING FOX PLAN

Member for Cootamundra Katrina Hodgkinson has announced Hilltops Council has received a $15,000 NSW Government grant to help manage a flying fox camp in Young.

Katrina said the NSW Government’s Flying Fox Grant Program aimed to reduce the impact of flying fox colonies on communities by helping councils prepare management plans and then implement measures within those plans.

“There are a range of options the council can consider in their plan to manage flying foxes including vegetation trimming or removal to create buffer zones,” Katrina said.

The NSW Government announced in June 2016 that $1 million in grant funds would be available for councils to prepare and implement flying fox camp plans of management where flying foxes caused significant community impacts.

“This funding aims to help minimise the impact of the flying fox camp on nearby communities,” Environment Minister Gabrielle Upton said.
