$226,000 FUNDING FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT TO PROTECT AND PRESERVE HERITAGE

Member for Cootamundra Katrina Hodgkinson has announced $226,000 funding over the next two financial years under the NSW Government’s Heritage Grants.

“Looking after our heritage is everyone’s responsibility and communities play an important role in maintaining and promoting local heritage,” Katrina said.

“Our local heritage speaks to our history so it is important to protect, promote and celebrate it.”

Under the Heritage Reports program, Junee Shire Council has been awarded a $10,000 grant for the Junee Athenium Theatre CMP and Masterplan for the 2017/18 financial year.

Under the Local Government Heritage Advisors program, seven local councils have been awarded $6,000 per year for over the 2017/18 and 2018/19 financial years, including Narrandera Shire Council; Temora Shire Council; Weddin Shire Council; Coolamon Shire Council; Bland Shire Council; Cootamundra Gundagai Regional Council and Cowra Shire Council. Hilltops Council is to receive $11,500 per year over the next two financial years.

This will fund the services of a local heritage advisor to provide expert advice on heritage planning and conservation.

Under the Local Heritage Places program, six local councils have also been awarded $6,000 per year, over the 2017/18 and 2018/19 financial years, including Narrandera Shire Council; Temora Shire Council; Weddin Shire Council; Coolamon Shire Council; Bland Shire Council and Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council. Cowra Shire Council is to receive $6,500 per year and Hilltops Council is to receive $12,000 per year, over the next two financial years.

This will enable local councils to fund their own small grants program to encourage community action on heritage protection.
