EXCITING NEW MAJOR PROJECTS UNVEILED FOR GUNDAGAI AND COOTAMUNDRA

Media Release – 26 July, 2017

A massive adventure playground and a water park are among a host of exciting new projects to be given the green light for Gundagai and Cootamundra as part of a NSW Government funding windfall, Member for Cootamundra Katrina Hodgkinson has announced.

Following exhaustive community consultation, close to $9 million in major projects were formally approved this week for Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) under the Stronger Communities Fund (SCF). The SCF was established following last year’s council mergers and saw the NSW Government gift $9 million for major projects and $1 million for smaller projects to CGRC.

Katrina met with CGRC administrator Stephen Sykes and a representative of NSW Premier and Cabinet on Monday to officially endorse the major projects shortlisted for funding, before visiting some of the project sites on Tuesday.

Among the raft of “big ticket” projects approved were a $500,000 water park at Cootamundra pool, a $700,000 adventure park for Gundagai, $300,000 to upgrade Gundagai’s Visitor Information Centre and $2 million to overhaul Cootamundra’s ageing water mains.

Katrina said she was pleased to be part of such an historic funding injection into the two communities.

“These projects will help future-proof Gundagai and Cootamundra and make them more vibrant, liveable communities,” Katrina said.

“They will have flow-on effects for tourism, making the towns even more attractive to visitors. And they will help support schools, families and a number of grassroots organisations. It’s only appropriate that those most affected – the residents – were able to give feedback and shape which projects were approved.”

Members of the Local Representative Committee and the Implementation Advisory Group have assessed the projects in recent months and compiled a shortlist for the panel.
