Nominate a Hidden Treasure from your community

Media Release – 24 May 2017

Member for Cootamundra Katrina Hodgkinson is encouraging local communities to nominate rural women volunteers for the 2017 NSW Hidden Treasures Honour Roll.

Katrina said nominating a rural woman for the 2017 Hidden Treasures Honour Roll is a great way to celebrate women and to promote the valuable role of volunteering to local communities.

“There are many outstanding female volunteers who provide incredible support to enrich the lives of others in their local communities,” Katrina said.

“Their drive, hard work and enthusiasm ensure the viability of many local community groups and charities.”

In NSW, there are almost 1.7 million volunteers, who give more than 241 million hours of voluntary work to their communities.

Volunteering can have many benefits, including improving health, reducing social isolation, raising self-esteem and contributing to the wellbeing and unity of our communities.

The growing list of nearly 700 rural female volunteers is a testament to the generosity and hard work of those who are publicly appreciated by their community.

“I’m particularly delighted that the 2017 Hidden Treasures Honour Roll will be launched at the NSW Rural Women’s Gathering in Narrandera later this year,” Katrina said.

To nominate a Hidden Treasures volunteer, simply complete your nomination online or download a nomination form at Nominations close on Friday 28 July 2017.
