RESURFACING AND SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS COMPLETED ON HUME HIGHWAY
Member for Cootamundra Katrina Hodgkinson has announced a $5.5 million project to improve safety for all road users on the Hume Highway at Steam Engine Hill near Jugiong has been completed.
Katrina said Roads and Maritime Services carried out work to improve the road surface and safety as well as reduce the risk of crashes on this section of the highway, 50 kilometres south of Yass.
“Nine crashes were reported in the five years to 2015, including one fatality and three which resulted in injuries,” Katrina said.
“Work involved widening shoulders, removing hazards, improving drainage and installing a new road surface.
“Improvements were also carried out on the West End Lane intersection with the Hume Highway to provide safer turning for all road users.
“Detailed traffic management was required throughout the project for the safety of workers and motorists and included the closure of northbound lanes with all traffic using southbound lanes.
“Thanks to the planning work and project management of the team, motorists were able to easily follow these traffic changes without incident, enabling the main component of the project to be completed ahead of schedule and in time for the busy Easter period.
“Roads and Maritime thanks motorists for their patience during this important road upgrade work.”
