Truck washes at Narrandera, Cowra and Cootamundra set to receive share of $10 million

Media Release – 20 May 2017

Member for Cootamundra Katrina Hodgkinson has today announced that the Cootamundra electorate will share in a $10 million joint initiative between the NSW and Australian Governments to build and upgrade truck wash-out facilities.

“A total of $995,300 funding will support a new Livestock and Bitumen Truck Wash at Narrandera, as well as improvements at both the Cowra and Cootamundra saleyards,” Katrina said.

“This work is part of the NSW Government’s Fixing Country Truck Washes program, which is set to build an efficient freight transport network across regional NSW by focusing on hotspots where truck washing facilities and effluent disposal doesn’t currently meet the needs of truck operators.

“This is an essential industry to the state’s economy and I’m very pleased with the local projects that have been successful, as they will contribute to a stronger freight transport network.”

Katrina said the initiative was designed to enhance the safety and productivity of truck wash-out facilities, as well as provide environmental benefits across regional NSW.

“All projects underwent a detailed evaluation process, first by a Technical Panel chaired by Transport for NSW and then by the Infrastructure NSW’s Regional Independent Assessment Panel with representatives from across the freight industry,” Katrina said.

“All applicants had to demonstrate that their upgraded or new facility could lawfully dispose of, or sustainably reuse, collected waste water. So this announcement is testament to the hard work of those who were involved in submissions.”

“The NSW Government is always looking for ways to make life easier for rural, regional and remote businesses and this is another example of that.”
